Navigating pregnancy can be exciting, overwhelming, and everything in between - and it's not something you should have to do alone. Evening Tea Talks is a new, free 7-week program designed to help you build your village, connect with others, and feel supported as you prepare for life with a new baby.
Hosted at the Hunter Medical Research Institute, Evening Tea Talks brings pregnant people together for relaxed, welcoming sessions over hot drinks, savoury bites, and sweet treats. Each week offers time to connect with others who 'get it,' as well as a focused discussion on topics that matter during pregnancy.
What is Evening Tea Talks?
Evening Tea Talks is not your average mothers' group. It's a perinatal support initiative and research project led by teams from The University of Newcastle and the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI).
Across seven weeks, you'll be invited into a safe, inclusive space to share experiences, ask questions, and explore the emotional, social, and practical sides of pregnancy.
Program details:
Duration: Free 7-week program
When: Wednesdays, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, starting from 17 June 2026
Where: Hunter Medical Research Institute
Cost: Free
What to Expect Each Week
Each Evening Tea Talks session runs for around 90 minutes of focused discussion, with time before and after to mingle, grab a drink, and settle in.
Topics covered over the 7 weeks include:
•
Identity: How pregnancy and motherhood can reshape your sense of self, and how to stay grounded in who you are.
•
Wellbeing: Practical ways to look after your mental and emotional health during this big life transition.
•
Women's Health: Information and conversations about your changing body, recovery, and long-term health.
•
Career: Balancing work and pregnancy, planning parental leave, and thinking about your return to work.
•
Relationships: Navigating changes in your relationship with your partner, family, and friends.
•
Expectations: Separating social pressures from your own values, and finding a version of motherhood that works for you.
You don't need to prepare anything - just come as you are. The atmosphere is informal, supportive, and centred on real conversations.
